Here we are, on the other side, and we all made it out alive. It's been six days since we closed the show at the Fringe and this weekend the Fringe 2019 itself will end. We have been working on this play since July 2018 (and we're still not done) and it's been a long, hard 13 months. I'm still not sure I would do this year over again, but that being said, I think (hope) we all had a good time, made new friends and a few new contacts.
We got some good reviews - 3 stars all around - which was very pleasing and we had close to a 50% house on nearly every night (which was not only unexpected because we were a new company, but also because we saw many messages from other companies saying, "please, if you've got some time, we only have 2 tickets sold for tonight, can you come and watch our show" being passed from one performer to another). Luckily, we never had to do that, but we did our share, going to see as many shows at our venue as we possibly could, in order to support our colleagues (made easier by the Greenside pass, thanks Greenside!)
Last summer, when this play was first brought to my attention, I knew it was a very Fringe-y play and would do well in this type of market. And my instincts were right as Prof. Grahame Smith from The Dickensian remarked, "...this was the perfect Fringe offering, offbeat and unusual, lively and amusing, and original in a quite satisfying way."
I could, of course, now go into a play-by-play of my personal Fringe experience but I won't, because it would be my personal Fringe experience and not necessarily that of the company (buy me a drink and I'll be happy to share my war stories) but I will say that I feel strongly that because of this experience, doors have been opened for White Rabbit, even if I'm not sure what those doors are yet, or where they go.
I would also like to give a big thank you to Christina, Joelle and Sebastian, who came over to Scotland for a few days each, to help us with advertising/selling tickets and to Karen, Insaf, Chelsea, Alyssa, Tomi's sister and brother-in-law, and pretty much everyone Ciaran has ever met since childhood, who also came out to show their support. It didn't go unnoticed or unappreciated.
If you would like to check out any of the reviews, you can find them here:
The above-mentioned article for The Dickensian has not been published yet (I was sent a direct copy) but I will post it when it is.
Also, take a look at our updated photos page to see the shenanigans from the run.
AND DON'T FORGET, DISCORD IS NOT FINISHED. We have four more shows here in Switzerland, October 9-12 and tickets are on sale now at Ticketino.com!!!
